Jan Furumasu, B.S.:
Jan is a physical therapist who has worked at Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center since
1979. She is currently a consultant in the pediatric outpatient clinics,
adult spinal cord injury unit, and the Center for Applied Rehabilitation
Technology Center (CART), evaluating functional and assistive technology
needs, primarily in the areas of seating and mobility. Jan has worked on
both research projects investigating cognitive readiness for powered mobility.
She has published and presented extensively in areas including seating,
mobility, gait, and patients with muscle diseases. Ms. Furumasu was the
recipient of the Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award at RLAMC 1994 and
was on the Board of Directors of the National Registry for Rehabilitation
Technology Suppliers (NRRTS).
Donita Tefft, M.A.: Donita
is a Speech/Language Pathologist currently in private practice in Hermosa
Beach, California. She is the Primary Investigator for the current research
project "Powered Mobility and Young Children with Disabilities: A multicenter
trail to determine the cognitive and coping factors that predict wheelchair
skill level". She was also the PI for the research project "Cognitive Readiness
for Powered Mobility in Young Children" upon which the current project
is based. Until recently, Donita worked at Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center
in the Communication Disorders Department as the supervisor for the Pediatric
unit and other services. For the past fifteen years, she has specialized
in child and adult cognitive -communication disorders. Ms. Tefft has made
numerous presentations and conducted workshops on the research project,
as well as on cognitive/communication disorders in the brain injured populations.
Paula Guerette, Ph.D.: Paula
received her doctoral degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology in
1989 from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Currently, she
is an independent consultant and project director for the Bowman Grey Older
Adult Ability Program which is investigating technology assistance to indigent
older adults. Dr. Guerette also worked for the RERC on Technology for Children
at Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center for the past five years, providing
assistance with project methodology, instrument development, statistical
analysis, and interpretation of findings. She has conducted other research
at RLAMC in the areas of integrated controls for children, and the use
of technology to improve safety and independence of older adults.
